A Rose

Source — The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Name of piece — A Rose
Artist — Thomas Anshutz
A red dress with layered frills
has been laid out for me
the material is beautiful
but foreign to touch.
I have been told I will
look beautiful
wearing that dress.
A Rose looking like a Roae.
Where are the thorns, I mull.
I wear tne dress and sit on my dressing table
I clasp a pin on a loose curl
I indeed look like
A rose wearing a Rose
but where are the thorns,
I wonder.
I am lead into the Grand Hall
And made to sit on the stool.
I am told to smile by the man
holding a brush
in front of his canvas.
I place my elbow upon the table
And lean my head against my palm
I smile but not too much
for to me
A rose is incomplete
without her thorns
After 20 days I come alive,
This time through my artist's hand,
A Rose looking like a Rose
everyone exclaims.
But this time with her thorns,
I smile.
(It is NaPoWiMo, and fir the first time in my 20 years of existence — have i attempted to write a poem. It’s a challenge I have set for myself and regardless of the quality of the poem — I will try to see it through till the end. Thank you for reading!).
